History of World Rally Championship


World Rally Championship was by experienced international meetings, nine of which are already part of the International Championship of Manufacturers (BMI), which was contested from 1970 to 1972 have been formed. In 1973, the World Rally Championship, the first season of the WRC was started with the 42nd Rallye Automobile Monte-Carlo, 19 January.
Alpine-Renault wins the championship of the world's leading manufacturer, with its Alpine A110, Lancia after the title three years in a row, won the V6 Ferrari Lancia Stratos, the first car designed and built specifically for the rally. The first drivers' championship was not awarded until 1979, although the 1977 season and 1978 included the FIA Cup for Drivers, won by Sandro Munari Italian and Finnish Markku Alen, respectively. Swede Bjorn Waldegard was the first official world champion, Hannu Mikkola against Finland with a point.
Fiat manufacter took the title with Fiat 131 Abarth in 1977, 1978 and 1980, Ford Escort RS1800 in 1979 and Talbot Sunbeam Lotus in 1981 with her. Waldegard was by German Walter Röhrl and Ari Vatanen as a world champion Finn was the driver.
